We are approaching the final episode of the series "POLKAst: Conversations on Polish Culture and Language", created by the Faculty of Philology at the University of Białystok. The series was designed to meet the needs of students studying Polish as a foreign language and those involved in teaching the language.
— This final podcast, featuring Professor Katarzyna Sawicka-Mierzyńska from the University of Białystok, together with the first episode, in which we hosted Professor Elżbieta Awramiuk, also from the University of Białystok, form the bookends of the entire series. We began with the current turmoil in the language and conclude with what is happening in literature, but also – as it turned out – simply in life. In between, we explored topics that shed light on Polish culture in various ways: from language events (episode 6) and Chopin's music (episode 5), through: cultural stereotypes (episode 3), inclusion in language (episode 4), the presence of the Polish diaspora in distant parts of the world (episode 9), the language of young people (episode 8) and romantic language (episode 2), to linguistic taboos (episode 7). We talked about the mountains, the Baltic Sea, the Kielce region and Białystok. And we could have kept talking... – this is how POLKAst host Dr Diana Saniewska sums up the project.
— An adventure, a challenge, but also work – perhaps not hard, but demanding – adds Dr Michał Citko, the other host. – We wanted to show that Polish isn't boring and... isn't difficult. We're receiving feedback – which is very satisfying – that we've succeeded, and that's why we're so pleased that, even though POLKAst is coming to an end, we have more projects ahead of us.
— We collaborate with two French universities: Sorbonne Université and Université de Haute-Alsace, with whom we will be carrying out the next phase of our project, however, we will share more details after the summer holidays — announces the project leader, Prof. Elżbieta Awramiuk.
